The levels of violence by those who opposed the Freedom rides was alarming, this made the whites in the North turn against the segregationists in the South. This helped put pressure on the federal government to act. Secondly, the Freedom Riders helped inspire other African American in the South. The bravery of the freedom riders was crucial in persuading more African Americans to get involved and act against their infringements, which eventually led to the prohibition of segregation in interstate transit terminals. Thirdly, not only did the Freedom Riders provide a real-life example to African Americans, they also provided evidence to other white Americans that inspired them to take immediate action for more civil rights. As a result action for Civil Rights became widespread throughout the country which led to people to take up for African American rights. |
