Washington D.C.
CORE Freedom Ride leaves from Washington D.C. lead by James Farmers with 13 riders on board.
Charlotte
The first Freedom Rider is arrested (Joseph Perkins) after sitting at a whites only shoe shine.
Rock Hill
Freedom Rider John Lewis is assaulted in the Greyhound bus terminal after attempting to enter the white waiting room with another Freedom Rider
Atlanta
The Freedom Riders arrive in Atlanta where Martin Luther King, Jr. gives them a speech and warns them of violence ahead. Amid bomb threats, jeers and other threats, the Freedom Riders continue to New Orleans by plane.
Anniston
An angry mob of KKK members and their supporters burn one of the Freedom Riders bus near Anniston. The KKK members attempted to hold the doors shut, intending to burn the riders to death but for an unknown reason they retreated and the riders escaped the bus. The mob then beat the riders once they escape the bus and only leave when warning shots are fired into the air by highway patrolmen.
Birmingham
Another riot breaks out at the Trailways Bus Station and a KKK mob beats both Freedom Riders and innocent passerby's with iron pipes, chains, and clubs.
Montgomery
The Freedom Riders are once again attacked by a angry mob, 2 Freedom Riders are badly injured.
Jackson
The Freedom Riders are arrested and jailed, their strategy was to fill the jails with more than 300 jailed.
Parchman State Penitentiary
Because the Freedom Riders filled up the jails in Jackson, they are transferred to Parchman State Prison Farm where they were abused by segregationist authorities.
